Fargo Public Library To Host Native American Festival And Education Series Nov. 4 Through Nov. 8

November is Native American Heritage Month and the Fargo Public Library in partnership with the Native American Commission, Cultural Diversity Resources and the Plains Arts Museum will host the first Native American Festival and Education Series Saturday Nov. 4 through Wednesday, Nov. 8.

All ages are welcome and registration is not required. An adult must accompany children age 9 and younger. All of the events are free and open to the public due to generous donations from Knight Printing and Bell Bank. The schedule of events includes:

Saturday, Nov. 4 – Main Library:  10 a.m. – Introduction and Native American Welcome; 10:15 a.m. – The Buffalo River Singers; 10:30 a.m. – Storyteller Michael Gabbard; 11 a.m. – Speaker Darlene St. Clair; noon – Native American food tasting and sampling; 12:15 p.m. – Native American Commission presentation; 1 p.m. – Themed family and youth activities; 2 p.m. – Storyteller, writer and poet Anne Dunn; 3:15 p.m. – Musician and songwriter Annie Humphrey

Sunday, Nov. 5 – Main Library: 1 p.m. – Native American artist demonstrations; 2 p.m. – Speaker Bob Shimok, White Earth Land Recovery Project; 4 p.m. – Speaker Melody Staebner, Native American education programs in the community.

Tuesday, Nov. 7– Main Library: 6:30 p.m. ­– “Mino-Bimadiziwin: The Good Life,” a film about wild rice harvesting in Minnesota; after the film, producer and filmmaker Deb Wallwork will lead a brief discussion.

Wednesday, Nov. 8 – Main Library: 6:30 p.m. – “Warriors,” a film featuring stories of Native Americans as soldiers in Vietnam and as Vietnam veterans in America;  after the film producer and filmmaker Wallwork will lead a brief discussion.

Saturday, Nov. 11 – Plains Arts Museum:  11 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Native American Juried Arts and Crafts Festival.
